Knowledge is power ---- many times in our business knowledge means you make more money than those who do not invest in their brain.

Since we do not steam carpet fibers for ten minutes in a small area we can not kill bacteria therefore carpet can still smell even after hot water is used to clean it----that is where chemicals come into play and no mfg of carpet products will label their product for you so you can say you disinfected someones carpet.

There are a few products out that are labeled for carpet sanitizing.
Microban has one----https://interlinksupply.com/msds/cd40-mi...r-msds.pdf
Benefect has been using thyme oil--http://www.benefect.com/docs/msds_50475-disinfectant_can-eng.pdf
You can buy straight thyme oil from magic wand and make your own-----http://www.magicwandcompany.com/Thymol-C...thymol.htm

I have not used the microban product yet but have used Benefect and the only thing i dont like is the strong odor when you have to apply to large areas
but it is labeled for carpet sanitizing so you can have confidence to tell customers you followed industry standards---if that is what you need.

I have been using peroxide ( detonator) with  TLC from trsorg.com because of the silver in the tlc. I find i can remove red and black and yellow mold
on grout and carpet and some fabrics better than any product I have tried.
When using the products straight 50/50 I have fast results on grout removing mildew and for carpet even diluting with water using 10-15oz per gal  each product-- I have had success reducing odor on carpet in a large cafeteria that has carpet squares.  But there are no studies by whoever says we can use it on carpet and claim it works.

Because I mix and dilute I can not recommend anyone uses this on carpet or furniture it is not approved by the carpet police.....however

You may want to look into the info of how silver and peroxide combined work and how you can make your own silver and keep costs of the mix low.
Here is some info I have found over some time.

This company teaches you about silver and how to make your own---http://www.thesilveredge.com/h2o2.shtml#.Vv5YwHobLLd  The article explains how the combo works and has been studied at waste water plants but drinking it may not be smart.

This company has changed names but has the same product for a few years.

Not all -----but some customers know this info and are happy when they here about the safe and small percentage of peroxide used on carpet fibers
and many know about silver...........not too many understand by combining both commercial chem mfgs have been disinfecting hard surfaces for years.

But as usual the carpet industry is not allowed to use or claim anything will help the deep jungle of carpet fiber

After using the combo my nose knows the difference.
Thanks for the information Joel.

Are you making your own colloidaI slver and using it with carpet and Tile cleaning?
great stuff Joel! i envy your knowledge but am not much of a "student," so i don't do much of any industry-related reading. which i am sure hurts me but there it is. anyways, thanks for sharing! i have some olllldddd TLC, might be that i'll give it a shot with my h2o2 thanks
I am  going to buy the Dc electric unit and silver to make my own soon.
A Chemical company called Majestic makes a carpet sanitizer that is rinse free.  It can be applied and extracted via hwe, but also is labeled as a bonnet cleaner as well.   It is far more affordable than microban.  I think I can buy a gallon for 15 bucks or so locally, and it is mixed 4 oz per gallon.   I use it mainly carpet cleanings after a water extraction, but have used it on numerous other applications as well.

How well does it work for pet odors and urine?
I havent tried it for those issues.   It is essentially a product that is specifically for carpeted area that is like microban.....but its not really a deodorizer.
Just google Majestic carpet sanitizer and you can see the msds on product. It is dangerous stuff to bacteria and us. http://vps.miscoproducts.com/Pressroom%2...AB-I10.pdf

11-12 ph  Quantemary Ammonum Chloride  it  will kill stuff----- but best to use with resiperator when spraying with electric sprayers and atomizing product in large areas.

11-12 ph will strip carpet of mfg protection and it will react to other products used and left on carpet.

Any results to post?

I have been testing the TLC with Peroxide the last couple of days.

I purchased the silver generator and the nano silver it makes is low ppm but very potent when combining with detonator straight no water added. 6ozs of det 6ozs of silver that costs a few pennies in electric just completely removes black and red mildew off grout in a shower and on some concrete block outside.
I sprayed it in a shower and within a few minutes the grout was clearing up....some light brushing and rinse with shower water. 2 small shower floors 30 min $100
Stone tile where you can not use acid. Two small wires of pure silver makes a lot of gals of product. 3 hours to make of quart of colloidal. I will add it to encap on carpet jobs with odor and see long term results and if odor is improved. It will take a long time to find field results.

Detonator by itself does not remove mildew fast and silver by itself does not remove mildew--must be mixed and the mix will not last long because the oxygen off gases faster when mixed.

Only advantage to making your own is the volume of silver that can be used will cost very little.
Would it aid in the cleaning of carpet. Not necessarily with smell but with dirt?

No
Hey Joel, any new results to report with the Silver / Detonator applications?

I  improved odor on a bad urine job by soaking padding with mix of silver and detonator diluted with water to soak padding.  It could not reduce odor within  15 mins
so like many products that destroy bacteria it needs to dry out before odor is reduced.  I went back over areas with encapacide and still could not reduce odor while at job for one hour. The odor was improved and customer happy because of the reduction of smell but there was still a bad odor when leaving. Probably reduced smell 60%.    The customer will let the dog pee on carpet within hours of me leaving so job was a good example where tearing out carpet and pad will need to be done when they leave the rental unit. On carpet or rooms with a slight musty odor the few ounces of silver and peroxide make a big difference right away without perfume or heavy scent other deodorizers have.

I have had good success improving yellow dots of mildew on white cotton furniture. Many of these fabrics need a neutral ph or lower so using straight colloidal silver with an encap like encap green and safe and soft works good. Some spots can never be removed but i can improve fabrics 90%.  I would always refuse to clean these jobs with mildew in the past and recommend the furniture be recovered or thrown out.  I would watch as customers would live with these mildew spots on sofas year after year and not replace them.  Now I offer service to clean and explain the furniture should still be thrown out because of mildew inside the cushion and back side of fabrics.

I make 2 gallons of silver and use a little to boost jobs here and there. Only cost the pennies in electric  and a gallon of distilled water to make now that I have the generator and silver wire.  I leave a gallon on van and it lasts 3-4 weeks.
You're right knowledge is power. Having information that your competitors don't will make you go above them and dominate the marcket. Focus on learning everything you can on your service and how to sell it more and you will not be disappointed.

Do you have an amount in oz/gal that you add?

Thanks for the help....now I am going to research which machine to purchase. Any advice?
I can not tell you how many oz of silver to add.   All I know is with any product I have used for odor over the years comon sense means more volume for more odor in padding.  When adding silver to encap  I have had success with 6-10 oz of the 10ppm nano silver per gal and match that with detonator for carpet and I skip the peroxide for cotton furniture unless it is white with mildew spots---- but you will need to test for yourself.

The silver edge machine has an aerator that puts bubbles into water while running current to get silver suspended in water besides the way the current get small particles.
Quality for service is very important today. Keep price in mind but understand quality and service come first always.
