Removing fiberglass from carpet
#1
Custie has a cut pile nylon carpet in a therapy room where people lie down.
Fiberglass sound dampening pieces where put into the ceiling for noise control.
Some of the fibers are on the carpet.
What is the best way to remove them?

Vacuum and pile lift and keep vacuuming ....? Possibly encap?

Thanks in advance!

Lots of vacuuming and pile lifting in between vacuumings. Encap juice will not encapsulate fiberglass, if that is what you are suggesting.

No matter what your cleaning method is, the key is to VACUUM, VACUUM, VACUUM and vacuum some more.

Did I mention to do lots of vacuuming?Big Grin

I definitely agree with vacuuming.

We occasionally get carpets that have gone through storms or a tornado and have insulation on them. We would pile lift, vacuum and then HWE and still have a customer say it felt itchy. Generally these carpets are replaced when wind driven.

So insulation that falls on the carpet should be much easier than wind driven. Again vacuuming is going to be your best weapon, HWE works great for flushing soil, but glass fibers?

It could drive some deeper into the pile only for the stray glass fibers to surface later.

I would do as Steve suggested vacuum and vacuum, then I would HWE, and vacuum when dry just in case you pulled more up. Big Grin

Then, as your final step, get naked and roll across the carpet in all four directions and diagonally.
